CWordPad is a basic word processor. It is an enhanced version of WordPad. It supports Rich Text Format and Plain Text Format. It has a basic spell checker and thesaurus, but to work you have to add manually a dictionary (the file must have .tlx extension). To add a dictionary go to the View menu, select the dictionaries option, and click on Add File (with Windows Xp you can find some in "\WINDOWS\system32\" like "AutoCorr.tlx". Files can be saved in Win Word 6.0, RTF (Rich Text Format), txt document, and MS-DOS text format. Other functions you can use are: preview and print documents; search for words, copy, paste, undo, format date and time, toggle full-screen mode, insert objects, and bullets; select different fonts, change font size, use bold, italic, underline, change text color, align to left, center or right; change indentation left, right and first line. In the View menu you can visualize or hide toolbar, format bar, ruler, status bar, change to full screen and open the options. In the options window you can change measurement units; change word wrap and select tool bars for: text, rich text, Word 6, Write, and Embedded format.

I love this as a substitute for Microsoft Wordpad.

I always preferred this program to the "real" Wordpad. Alas, it refuses to install on my 64-bit Windows 7 system. When I try to run Setup, it immediately informs me it is not compatible with my system.

I have used this app since its first offering...back in the 90s or before. It has worked great for doing small editing and writing projects and is a terrific on the fly notebook utility.
